Gorrick MBC Spring Series race 4 Yateley Heath

Turning off the road into Yateley Heath on the 14th April, I could have been forgiven for thinking I had driven into the twilight zone, for the sun was shining, as it had been all week and what a scorcher of a day it looked set to be.

Due to an injury from a previous event I entered myself into the spectator category along with Jerry Mcgill and Alan Spencer who unfortunately crashed out on his practice lap, hard luck Alan.

The lovely weather saw a good turn out of BOB's, both taking part and spectating and with the caravan present which was a hive of activity.

Talking to riders and racers, the Gorrick team had done another great job in building a cracking course, which was fast and dry and very technical with little fireroad and loads of singletrack, conditions BOB's revel in! Although at nearly six miles long, would it take its toll?

Although not racing, Chris Radband set the tone for the day's merriment by turning up on his new bike, a 'microbike', from the market, although several took to the trail for a test ride, none took to the course.

Setting off in the early races were Paul Howard in the masters, and Martin Foad and Peter Hennessey in the Vets. Lunchtime arrived and it was time for the Fun category, and to shouts of encouragement and ringing of alarms they were off. After 2 laps we waited in anticipation and first home for BOB's in second was Colin Adams unfortunately later disqualified, so first classified finisher was Kevin Hargreaves home in 10th place. The big question was would this be enough to earn him his first trophy for finishing in the top ten percent so he could move up to novice's? But with 92 in the race he missed out by one place, bad luck Kev, still one more fun race at Crowthorne to break the duck. Other finishers in the race included Ian Whitely, Jeff Antram, Nigel Leviss. Helen Copeman raced in the novice women and Alex Szlanina raced for BOB's in the Novice men.

Well done to all the BOB's for taking part and others for their support in encouraging racers, the Gorrick wagon rolls onto Crowthorne wood for 12th May where BOB's will return for much merriment and mayhem. A good days racing and in good weather for once, results below.
